Optimisation Tools for Meta Tags
The Title tag, Description meta tag and (to a lesser extent) the Keywords meta tag can be used to assist in receiving a higher search engine ranking.
All website owners and developers should become familiar with articles about SEO - Seach Engine Optimisation and in paticular informative articles referring to achieving high google rankings. If you implement many of the points in those artilces, your website will become more effective.
In regard to the major Australian used search engines (google, yahoo, ninemsn, sensis), we have found that:
- The title should be 65 characters or less.
- The description meta tag should be 155 characters or less.
- The keywords meta tag should be 256 characters or less.
